Poker Night announced for 30th June, details to follow on contact Ron on 823862

Date 4th April

Night Competitions - starting today the club will be holding a weekly 9 hole competition on Wednesday afternoons. These competitions will be of a social nature and open to all club members. Men and Ladies, active and inactive handicap players alike. Men will play off the yellow tees and Ladies the red as usual. The format will be different each week.

Sometimes it will be individual, other times it will be pairs and team events. We will play stableford, foursomes and variations on this, texas scramble and occasionally medal, one or two of these will be a four club medal. There will be a small entry fee of £3 for these competitions with 50% of the weekly total going to club funds and 50% used as prize money. The more people that enter the bigger the prize fund (and therefore the more to club funds also). The prize giving will be held after the following week’s competition. The first two or three weeks will be shotgun starts with two tee times available. After the evenings draw out, there will be a list of tee times put up on the notice board, all you have to do is pick your slot and playing partners. Depending on the format it may be possible for players to arrange their own time to play providing the entry fee is submitted. There will be a sign-in sheet available to show who has entered.

Please note that the course will not be closed for these competitions and therefore we will have to co-operate with other players or visitors. I don’t want to make it too complicated but anyone with comments or suggestions please speak with me about it. Thank you, Colin Solway.

A celebration is in order after today's fantastic result!   Alderney win for the first time ever at St Pierre Park, Guernsey.  The result: 4 1/2 : 2 1/2   A great recovery after Saturday losing to La Grand Mare 5 : 2, well done to the Alderney team.  It's such a shame you were beaten by the fog and didn't return home that night...... you missed the fans, a special bus, celebration banners, pole dancers, free beer and TV broadcasts.  Maybe next year, ay?

Breaking news: our fantastic new white club polo shirts have arrived with the new Alderney Golf Club logo..... Whats more, for a limited period we are offering the shirts for just £10 each... grab one today!

Also, great progress has been made with refurbishment in the clubhouse. The ceilings have been plastered and the carpets cleaned. Further work will be completed with re-decoration and we hope to have the clubhouse back open next weekend (23rd March). Watch this webspace for updates as progress is made.

Work will start on the renovation of the clubhouse, the windows and doors are to be replaced and we hope that this should take just two days to finish. The club house will be open as normal this weekend, then next week phase two will take place to replace the ceiling and install new lighting.

Keith Mason has hole in one !! With a strong wind behind Keith chose a 6 iron on the 6th hole and hit a solid shot, after a short search round the green the ball was found in the cup. On the return to the clubhouse tradition was observed and the bell rang, fortunately for his wallet though only his 4 ball and the steward were present to toast his achievement

Date: 27th December 2011 Captain's letter start of 2012

Dear Members,

Happy New Year and thank you for your membership support for the coming year.

We have enclosed your 2011/12 membership badge and would appreciate you clearly displaying this on your bag whenever you are using the club facilities. In addition if you have paid for a locker, you will find enclosed a sticker that needs to be displayed on your locker.

In 2011 we successfully restored the club to financial health and our aim for 2012 is rejuvenation. We need to retain financial stability and efficiency whilst starting to invest in the areas members have told us they most want to see improved. For example:

  • Introducing a clubhouse renovation programme on an urgency needs basis
  • Appointing a social secretary to develop an events schedule
  • Improving greens with the use of new equipment
  • Revamping general communication, for example, the introduction of our new website: www:alderneygolfclub.com

Finally, we do value your membership and continued feedback. On behalf of the committee, we look forward to seeing you again soon and wish you good luck for a fantastic year ahead.

Kind Regards

Christopher Hodgson
